The ferocity of the devastating Gatlinburg wildfire has been captured on film by local residents as they attempt to rescue stranded family members.

Martina and Chris Owenby, from Gatlinburg, Tennessee, USA, caught the devastation on tape on the evening of Monday November 28th as they headed back into the burning city to help evacuate their friends and family who were in potential danger.

As they approach the ferocious flames that have reduced much of the surrounding area to ash and rubble, the blackness of the night around them quickly erupts into a sea of burning orange.

The high-rise flames on the bank of the woodland area that boarders the road hisses and brushes against the Owenby’s car, causing a wave of unbearable heat that forces Chris to swiftly wind her window up.
